Heavy rain and thunderstorm disrupt life in Chandigarh, Haryana, and Punjab
A recent western disturbance brought rain and hail to Chandigarh and nearby areas of Haryana and Punjab, causing disruptions on Thursday morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted the rainfall, issuing an orange alert for parts of north Haryana and Punjab.
Orange alert amidst unexpected rainfall
The squall line, forming between the borders of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, resulted in moderate rain, thunder, and lightning in Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Mohali. The IMD declared an orange alert for regions including Panchkula to Naraingarh in Haryana and Mohali to Chamkaur Sahib in Punjab. Additionally, a yellow alert was issued for various districts in east Punjab and north Haryana.

Unusual rainfall challenges driest month norms

Ropar in Punjab recorded the highest rainfall at 38.5mm, followed by 11.4mm in Ambala, Haryana, and 15.5mm in Chandigarh. The orange alert, signaling heavy rain, prompted residents to prepare for potential disruptions, while the yellow alert advised staying updated on weather conditions.
